IMPORTANCE OF GOAL SETTING IN BUSINESS!!




                                                         SET GOALS!!!

Successful ENTREPRENEUR’S well established BUSINESSMAN’S OR top sales PROFESSIONAL’S all these people have one thing in common all over the world that is they set clear cut target’s for themselves. GOALS play a very important role in anybody’s life, they provide a reliable course of action. Without any goals, no matter how much effort’s we put in still we’ll not be able to achieve any result because those effort’s are not guided toward’s any specific or particular goal’s. This will be a situation like in where we are trying to shoot at something but there is no target. Studies show that only less than 3% of people have written goals. There is no use of having such a talent if you don’t know how to channelize your effort’s toward’s a specific goal.

IF GOAL SETTING IS SO IMPORTANT

WHY MOST OF THE PEOPLE DON’T HAVE IT.

A major reason is the lack of clarity on the defination of a goal.

MOST PEOPLE CONFUSE DREAM’S AND THEY THINK THEY HAVE GOALS. GOALS ARE DREAMS WITH A DEADLINE, A CLEAR DIRECTION AND A PLAN OF ACTION.

Gols are of 3 types

  1. short-term= up to 1 year
  2. medium -term= up to 3 years
  3. long-term= up to 5 years

When a goal is of more than 5 year’s it is considered as motive of life or a lifetime goal.

GOALS MUST BE SMART

S – SPECIFIC

M – MEASURABLE

A – ACHIEVABLE

R – REALISTIC

T – TIME BOUND

Also, between realistic and achievable there is a little overlapping. If a goal is within reach, does it motivate us? The answer is no, it doesn’t. Goals must be slightly out of reach but not out of sight.

MECHANISMS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

Divide your goals into smallest common denominator like

  1. SEMI-ANNUALY
  2. QUATERLY
  3. MONTHLY
  4. WEEKLY
  5. DAILY
  6. HOURLY

Write down your goals and read them daily. Always read your goals twice or even thrice a day. This will motivate you to achieve your hourly and daily goals which wil eventually lead to achievemt of long term goals.

FOR EXAMPLE

If a person needs to make  1000$ a week and his average commision is 350$, that means he needs to make three sales a week. In order to make three sales a week, he has to make ten sales presentation’s face to face. In order to make ten presentation’s , he requires to make fifteen appointmen’ts per week. This is because he leaves room for cancellation, contengencies or unforseen reasons. In order to have fifteen apointment’s, he needs to speak to fifty desicion maker’s. In order to speak to fifty desicion maker’s, he needs to make 150 calls or phone dials a week.

SOME OTHER THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE TO ACHOEVE YOUR GOALS

  1. Read your goals twice a day.
  2. Plan your day one week in advance.
  3. listen to a motivational audio CD while driving or while idle.
  4. Read thirthy minutes everyday before going to bed.
  5. after approraching any client,deal or meeting , always askyourself that what were the things that you should have done that you didn’t do, and what were the things that you should not have done but you did.
